The Fixtures We Hang

Almost every fixture in a home hangs from a ceiling box — and almost every problem we’re called to fix traces back to that box. Here’s what we install every week across the Treasure Coast:

Chandeliers & pendant lights

Heavy statement fixtures need more than a standard box. We install fan- and fixture-rated support boxes or brace kits anchored to the framing so a 40-pound chandelier hangs as securely on day 1,000 as on day one.

Ceiling fans

A fan adds vibration to weight, which is why fans have their own box rating. We swap in fan-rated boxes on braced supports, wire fan and light functions correctly, and balance the result so it runs quiet.

Recessed lighting

Adding cans or retrofit LED inserts to an existing ceiling means cutting precise holes, fishing cable, and keeping housings clear of insulation where required. We handle the layout, the wiring, and the patch-ready openings.

Vanity & bath fixtures

Bathroom fixtures live around moisture and mirrors. We mount them level, seal the mounting hardware, and confirm the circuit is GFCI-protected as bathrooms require.

Bought the Fixture Yourself? We’ll Install It.

Plenty of our fixture work starts at a home-improvement store. If you’ve already bought a chandelier, fan, or vanity light, we’ll install it — and before we touch the wiring, we inspect the unit: intact hardware, complete mounting parts, a clear manufacturer wiring diagram, and a weight the existing box can actually carry. If something’s missing or undersized, we’ll tell you before the job starts, not after the fixture is on the ceiling.

Supplying your own fixture saves the markup; hiring a licensed electrician to hang it keeps the warranty intact and the installation safe. It’s the combination we see work best.

What a Proper Installation Includes

  1. Power off and verified. The circuit is shut down and tested dead before any wire is touched.
  2. Box inspection and upgrade. We open the existing box and confirm it’s rated for the fixture’s weight. Fans and heavy chandeliers get braced, rated support boxes — the single most skipped step in DIY installs.
  3. Wiring done right. Conductors landed on the correct terminals, grounding connected, wire nuts sized to the conductors, dimmer compatibility checked.
  4. Mounting and leveling. The fixture is secured, leveled, and finished trim is seated cleanly against the ceiling or wall.
  5. Full function test. Every switch, dimmer, and fan speed is run through before we pack up.

Treasure Coast Notes

Port St. Lucie’s housing stock mixes newer construction with decades-old homes, and fixture boxes vary wildly between them. Older homes often have shallow or plastic boxes that were fine for a simple light but were never meant to hold a ceiling fan. Outdoor and lanai fixtures deal with salt air and summer storms, so we favor corrosion-resistant hardware there. When we quote your job, these local details are already baked in.

Light Fixture Installation FAQs

Can you install a light fixture I bought at a store?

Yes — customer-supplied fixtures are common for us. We inspect the fixture and its mounting hardware first, confirm the ceiling box is rated for its weight, and install it to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Can a ceiling fan go on the box my old light used?

Usually not without an upgrade. Fans vibrate and weigh more, so they need a fan-rated box on a braced support. A standard light box will loosen over time. We replace the box as part of the fan installation.

My chandelier is very heavy. Can my ceiling support it?

That’s exactly what we check first. Heavy fixtures need a rated box anchored to framing (or a brace kit spanning the joists). If the existing box can’t carry it, we install proper support before hanging anything.

Can you add recessed lights where there are none now?

Yes. We cut the openings, fish wiring from an accessible source, and install the housings or retrofit LED inserts. We’ll plan the layout with you so spacing and coverage look intentional.

Do I need a new dimmer switch with my new fixture?

Sometimes. LEDs in particular can flicker or buzz on older dimmers. During the install we test the combination and can replace an incompatible dimmer with one rated for your fixture type.

Can you install fixtures on a vaulted or very high ceiling?

Yes, we bring the right ladders and equipment for high and angled ceilings, and we’ll confirm mounting and wiring access is workable when we quote the job.

How long does a typical fixture installation take?

A straightforward swap on a good box can be under an hour; adding a fan-rated box, running new wiring, or hanging a heavy chandelier takes longer. We’ll give you a realistic time window with your estimate.

Do you install outdoor and lanai fixtures?

Yes. For outdoor locations we use fixtures and hardware rated for damp or wet locations and corrosion-resistant mounting hardware suited to coastal Florida conditions.
